The Council of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA/the Authority) reminds its stakeholders and the public that the term of office of its long-standing Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Willington Ngwepe, comes to an end on the 15th of October 2022.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (“the Authority”) will hold virtual public hearings in respect of the Discussion Document on Signal Distribution Services.

The public hearings will take place virtually on 19 August 2022.

ICASA clarifies the reason for the non-renewal of the Zibonele Community Radio broadcasting licence.

The Council of ICASA hereby announces the appointment of Dr Charley Lewis as the Acting Chairperson, effective from 16 July 2022 to 03 April 2023, or until a Chairperson is appointed in terms of section 5(1B) of the ICASA Act, 2000 (Act No. 13 of 2000).

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (“ICASA/the Authority”) will hold a virtual public hearing in respect of the applications received from Dark Fibre Africa Proprietary Limited (“DFA”) for the transfer of various licences as published in the Government Gazette No. 46391 on 20 May 2022.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa invites all aspirant community television broadcasters to pre-register their licence applications. The Invitation to Pre-Register (ITP-R) was published on 30 June 2022 and can be downloaded at https://www.icasa.org.za/pages/community-tv-broadcasting-licences. The closing date for applications is 12 January 2023 at 16h30.
