The Complaints and Compliance Committee to hear a matter between North West FM and its founding shareholder and Board Chairman

Johannesburg – The Complaints and Compliance Committee (CCC) will hear a matter between North West FM (Pty) Ltd (NWFM) and the founding shareholder and a Non-Executive Chairman of the Board, Mr Kenny Setzin of Direng Investment Holdings.

The complaint, officially lodged by Mr Setzin on 11 June 2018, relates to the allegations of hostile take-over of the radio station by Motswako Media Group (Pty) Ltd and the alleged amendment in shareholding and management control, news and current affairs, and sales of NWFM without following ICASA’s regulatory processes.

The two parties will appear before the CCC on 26 July 2018 at ICASA’s Head Office in Sandton from 10h00. The hearing is open to any members of the public.

Broadcasting plays a critical and meaningful role in promoting the plurality of views and opinions, and its public interest mandate is immeasurable. “It is therefore ICASA’s role to ensure that this public interest mandate is upheld in all respects by licensees and that proper governance and adherence to the licence terms and conditions as well as regulations is achieved,” says ICASA Councillor, Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng.

After hearing the matter, the CCC may make any recommendation to the Council of ICASA in terms of how the matter can be addressed moving forward.
