North West FM submits an application for transfer of its commercial sound broadcasting service licence

Johannesburg – The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has received an application for a transfer of ownership and control of the Individual Commercial Sound Broadcasting Service licence by North West FM (Pty) Ltd. The application seeks approval from ICASA to transfer ownership and control of North West FM’s Individual Commercial Sound Broadcasting Service Licence to Motswako Media Group (Pty) Ltd.

In its application, North West FM asserts that Motswako Media meets the legislative requirement of a minimum of 30% of equity being held by Historically Disadvantaged Persons (HDPs) as required in terms of section 9(2)(b) of the Electronic Communications Act.

ICASA will evaluate this application by considering whether the transfer will promote competition in the information and communications technology sector, in particular broadcasting, public interest as well as equity ownership by historically disadvantaged person; and hereby invites all interested parties or stakeholders to make their written submissions in relation to the application by no later than 28 June 2018.
